for Wang Xichen
a poem by Willow Kang

The inky velvet sky hums its lullaby,
starlit bulbs like forlorn embers, antique promises
The nocturnal rabbits have turned amnesiac,
forgetting how the garden torches glowed
in extinct carnivals, before dusk was
a regretful tableau of ferris wheels & cotton candy.
This tableau only pretends to be alive,
all-seeing with dusty, frigid eyes
Sweep the typhoons in for the birdwatchers,
with their sorrows of whimsical nightingales
